Yext Adds Depth To Your Online Listing Management
Summary: If you’ve ever searched for a business online and found incomplete or inaccurate information, you know just how frustrating it can be for customers when listings aren’t up to date.
What is Yext?
Yext is a tool that controls multiple online listings from a single hub. It greatly increases efficiencies in business detail management across multiple online listings/profiles.
There are major aggregators that widely spread information through online search and the overall internet. These “major aggregators” include online info distributors like Localeze, Factual, Acxion, and Infogroup – four large players. They publish local business information to social media, search engines, directories, and review websites. Submitting your information will increase your chances for Google (and other search engines) to take your business more seriously when your business info is widely consistent, while other local companies fail to do so.
Yext helps extend your web presence onto the top online listings, including voice search optimization. There are numerous online listing websites like Google MyBusiness, Yelp, YP, and Bing (to name a few). And you need to remember the URL, login, and password for each of them. Then, when your business detail changes, you need to remember to visit each of them individually to simply update your holiday hours, email addresses, and phone numbers. Yext removes these hassles.
- Expand your visibility
- Consistency is king
- Control listing in mass (efficiency)
- React quicker

Yext: Efficiency Gains
Yext allows me to control the consistency of your business details across several listings. While Yext isn’t a daily-use tool, we can react quickly and in mass when your business detail changes. There’s an initial overhaul to scan your listings, edit, and deploy listings online. We’ll also review, revise, add images, website addresses, and service categories – basically all the details about your business that you typically see in online profiles.
Historically, we’d manually open an account with every “important” listing site. Google MyBusiness, Facebook, Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing… to name a few. Sound familiar? At the end of the day, we’d have a long list of online profiles, connected apps, and passwords to remember. Then, when change happens, we visit each one to manually edit any bit of information. Also, most online listing profiles offer different types of information. Your website address is on every profile, but holiday hours may not be on every listing.
I remember when I first started my business. It was an instant reaction to snag my business on Google MyBusiness, Facebook, Instagram, etc… as a sense of pride in ownership. Then, I had to replicate my logo and tons of business detail consistently across all these platforms.
Now we’ll control your listings across 70+ online profiles at once, from a single central hub.
Note: There are limitations. While all the major players are covered under this tool, Yext may not cover some niche listing sites. In these cases, manual accounts may still be necessary for online listings outside their network.

Your Business in More Places Online
The online space is diverse. Potential customers could be looking for your services in many corners of the internet. So, having a business profile on reputable websites is essential. One of the many goals of web marketing is for your business to be seen where potential customers are looking. It’s horribly inefficient to attempt to create a profile (or open an account) with every major online listing site, and Yext makes this happen for all major listing sites.
The value play is that being on more diverse sites gives you more visibility. Without a profile, you have no chance of being seen by people who use that site. Another value play is that we control your business detail on those profiles. This allows us to present consistent information about your business across the web. In some cases, the public (people) or web crawlers could automatically create profiles or update your business information if you as the business do not.
As the web space continues to grow, you’ll see more online listing websites that “niche down” to attract higher quality, but smaller groups of people.
Online Listings, Consistency, and the Effect On SEO
One of many aspects of search engine optimization is the consistency of information across profiles. How do you feel about the consistency of your business detail across your current listings? As an owner, do you even know? You can expect RJL Web Marketing to monitor and control this.
If a potential customer visits you on Google and sees your address differently than on Facebook, what does that do to your credibility? Does it increase or decrease the likelihood of them diving into your other content or reaching out to engage in sales?
If a potential customer visits you on Bing and your business hours aren’t accurate, what kind of experience is there when they call, expecting to talk to a person, but there’s no one there?
How do you think search engines and web crawlers feel about your credibility? Do you think they’ll be more or less likely to serve your business on search engines or voice search if they see discrepancies in your details?
Consistent information across online listings is one of many SEO best practices. Yext allows us to complete this work effectively and efficiently.
The point is that we can make a task more efficient. Isn’t that what we all want in our tools?
